Step 1: Dissolve the White Lightning in 1 gal of warm or hot water. Use a sponge to thoroughly clean the door. After the door is cleaned with White Lightning, rinse the door with clean, plain water. Make sure the door is dry.
Step 2: Tape any area you don’t want to get any paint on. Apply 1 thin coat of paint. Let it dry.
Bonus Tip: Use the sanding pad between coats of paint. Lightly go over the door with the sanding pad to get a smooth even finish.

Dixie Belle Paint Brushes Tips and Tricks
Are you wondering “Why are these chalk paint brushes so expensive?”. I get it! I used to think the same thing! I want to give you all the details about what makes Dixie Belle Paint Brushes by far the best brushes out there! And they make your life so much easier! Who wouldn’t want that?!? Dixie Belle synthetic bristle brushes are my absolute favorite product!
Dixie Belle synthetic brushes are hand made in the USA. They are made with the highest quality Dupont synthetic blend filaments. They have been specifically formulated to work with Dixie Belle Paint. There is just the right amount of polyester in our brush to provide that slight stiffness and general spring back you need without the brush collapsing. The nylon is what provides the softness and allows the paint to be released onto the surface. This keeps the brush in the best shape far longer than any other brush!
One of the biggest differences between our brushes and other brushes is the density or fullness of the brush. There is more filament in each brush than you would find in a similar size brush from another brand. This helps with holding more paint and providing a better equal paint release. This is what makes your life so much easier! The smooth release of the paint onto your project or furniture provides amazing coverage with the least amount of work! No streaky application or coverage.
The best beginner brush is the Small Oval brush. This brush is the best for any project or piece of furniture. It has a great shape to get paint onto every nook and cranny of your project. My favorite brush is the Mini Angle. It’s comfy to hold and covers a lot of area quickly!
The bottom line is, the brush might be a bit of an investment, but will be well worth the money. You will have this brush to use for literally years to come, making it a wise investment for sure!
How to Care for Your Dixie Belle Synthetic Brush: Clean with Scrubby Soap and warm water, rinse well. It’s best to dry the brush hanging down, handle at the top. (Do not store upside down) If bristles become deformed, use hot water and a blow dryer to activate the molecules inside the filaments and they will return to their original shape.
Have you ever wondered why chalk paint can sometimes chip? Do you have a piece of furniture you’ve painted and it doesn’t turn out like you planned? I understand and sometimes it happens to me! I’ve discovered the most important factor in determining my end result is what I start with!
Let me explain! The first thing I do with my piece of furniture is to clean it with White Lightning. This is an another amazing Dixie Belle product. It’s inexpensive and goes a long way! Basically, all you need to do is spray it on and wipe off. When you're done cleaning the piece, wipe it with clean water so there's no residue left.
Making sure your piece is clean is going to be the number factor in determining how well your paint will adhere to your piece. If there's any residue left on your piece of furniture, the paint can possibly chip off.
A few tips to make your furniture cleaning a breeze. First, the White Lightning comes in a powder form. I measure out the amount I need for my spray bottle and mix it right in my bottle. I try to use lint free cloths. I use an old t-shirt cut up. It works perfectly. Don’t let the water form any puddles on the furniture. You’ll be amazed by what comes off that piece of furniture! Check out the picture below!
Once your piece is dry, you’re ready to grab your favorite color of Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint and start painting! There’s no other prep needed!

The Top Five Chalk Paint Brushes
Have you ever stared at all the brushes wondering which one you should buy? And why are these brushes so expensive anyways? I get it! I’ve done the same thing! Lucky for you I’ve tried them all and done the research! Read on for my tips and tricks for choosing the best brush for you!
Finding the best chalk paint brush will depend on the project you are using it for. ! I have tried out just about every kind of brush and system out there. I have some definite favorites. I will say with paint brushes, you get what you pay for. I tried an inexpensive set from amazon, they literally fell apart after one use.
One thing I learned early on in my DIY experience is that it’s an absolute must to use the right tool for the job. If you’re wondering how to get a smooth finish when painting, the absolute most important thing is to choose the right brush. Sometimes it’s tempting to take the easy or cheap way out, but it ends up costing you more in the long run. Specifically, I learned that if I use the cheapest, most basic paint brushes, then my paint job just wasn’t going to be as good. The coverage wasn’t as good, sometimes the job ended up requiring more coats with the cheap brushes (which translated to more time), the bristles would shed like crazy, and it truly did make a difference in my project quality. I am super picky about my paintbrushes now, and I appreciate good quality. Here are the brushes I’ve tried throughout my painting and my thoughts on each one.
There are two types of bristles. Synthetic Bristle Brush - help to produce a smooth, contemporary finish and Natural Bristle Brush - produce a textured, vintage finish.
2. Cling on Brushes - Cling on Brushes has zero shedding and is self-cleaning, Its brush stroke free finish has smooth bristles and hold plenty of paint which allows for a great application. Painting with the brushes slightly wet helps produce a flawless finish and prevents paint from drying on bristles while in use. It is durable and is available in multiple sizes. It provides good coverage.
3. Pixie Paint Brushes - Their Natural & Synthetic blend bristles are thin brushes that are great for blending and of good quality. It is dense and thick. Its round shape provides good coverage and is reasonably priced.
4. Zibra Brush - Its synthetic bristle brush has many shapes to help with special projects. It is more of a stiff bristle brush that is designed for specific applications.
5. Annie Sloan Brushes - The world known expert in paint and color who originally invented the chalk paint has her own line of brushes as well. Her natural and synthetic brushes are dense and thick. They are quite expensive but of good quality and moderately easy to take care of compared to other less expensive brushes that work as well.
6. Chip Brush - Chip Brushes are inexpensive and sometimes disposable. It sheds bristles and gives uneven coverage. I would not recommend this!
So, the results are in! You want a quality brush to give you the best results!

All the Best,
Hey ReStyled Friends ,
Today, I’m going to tell you all about how to apply top coat using Dixie Belle Paint Polyurethane!
First of all, you can just leave your painted piece without poly but it will have a chalky feel to it, which is still nice and smooth. Remember, if you do not poly or wax your new piece is left unprotected & could be susceptible to stains, so it is always best to seal it with one or the other.
The awesome thing about Poly is it’s extra durability and protection that it gives and the nice sheen it adds to your piece. I have decided that I’m going to apply a Dixie Belle Polyurethane in satin finish to my table. This will give my piece a finished look. This product is a water based Polyurethane. It cleans easily and goes on nicely.
Here are the steps I would take to seal my piece.
Step # 1 - there’s really only one step!
I have a damp sponge, no water should be coming out from it, and the Dixie Belle Polyurethane. I am going to show to you how easy it is. I am only going to do one top coat and will let it dry and do another coat. The number of coats will depend on how frequently you will use it. I generally do 2-3 very thin coats of the poly.
I want to do nice thin coats in one direction. It’s not going to be super shiny, it will have a satin finish. I love the Polyurethane because is so quick to use, it’s not going to take me a long time. You might want to use a damp brush with synthetic bristles but the sponge is nice because you can wipe it on. It makes it nice and quick. After 7 days, it’s totally cured and your piece is good to go!
Chalk Paint Colors
I know! I know! Choosing a color to paint your piece of furniture can feel like you’re making the biggest decision of your life! Should I go with a pop of color? Should I go with a neutral? What if I don’t like it? What if I get tired of it? That’s the beauty of chalk paint! If you don’t like it, you can try again! And because there’s no prep with chalk paint, it’s a quick fix if you get tired of the color or change your mind.
A few quick tips for choosing the perfect chalk paint color!
*Get inspired! What moves you? Or makes you happy? Do you love walks on the beach and listening to the waves crash against the shore? Maybe blues and a soft brown would be a great choice for you. The neutrals are combined here with your pop of color.
*Start with your first neutral - white or a shade of white, cream, grey, beige...
*Next choose a pop of color - a color wheel can help with this or find inspiration in things you love!
*Lastly, choose a second color that will compliment your first color. Again, a color wheel is helpful! Looking at color palettes are also a great way to find complimentary colors!
There are so many combinations out there, I’m confident you’ll find your perfect color combo! Have a great weekend and let me know if you have any questions! Thanks! Deb
Do you have a piece of furniture you want to throw away?
WAIT! I can help! Let’s redo it!
Today I’m going to give you 5 easy steps to turn that piece of trash into a treasure!
Step 1: Clean your piece of furniture. You can use a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water or just a clorox wipe will do! Or use Dixie Belle White Lightening.
Step 2: Make sure all of your holes and scratches are filled. If they are all filled then move onto step 3. If not then take a small amount of wood putty and smooth it onto the scratch or hole. You can even use your finger for this. Wait for it to dry and then sand it smooth. Wipe it down to get all the dust off from sanding.
Step 3: Paint! Apply a thin coat of Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint in the color of your choice. Let it dry. Depending on humidity and temperature 30 - 60 minutes. Then apply a second coat of paint.
Step 4: Distress your piece! Using a 220 grit sanding block, go along edges, corners and raised surfaces on your piece. This will take some of the paint off, distressing your piece. Go along lightly until you have the look you like.
Step 4: Topcoat! Choose your topcoat. You can choose a poly or wax for a topcoat. Wax is the traditional topcoat used with chalk paint. A polyurethane will be more durable!
Step 5: Enjoy! Your piece is complete! Great job!
